The IBM 4234 Dot Band Printer Model 001 is a coaxially attached line-matrix impact printer providing printing speeds of up to 410 LPM in Draft mode, 300 LPM in Data Processing mode, and 120 LPM in Near Letter Quality. It attaches to the 3274, 3276, 3694 (US and Canada only), 4701, and 4702 Controllers and to Systems 4331/4361 and 4321 (US and EMEA only). It also attaches to the 9370 processor via the Workstation Subsystem Adapter.

The IBM 4234 Dot Band Printer Model 002 is a twinaxially attached line-matrix impact printer providing printing speeds of up to 410 LPM in Draft mode, 300 LPM in Data Processing mode, and 120 LPM in Near Letter Quality. It attaches to the AS/400, System/36, System/38, 5294 or 5394 Remote Controller communicating with a AS/400, System/36 or System/38, and the Series/1 via the 5200 Series Printer Attachment.
For administrative purposes, Model 002 is designated as Model 00Z when ordered as an optional device as part of the System/36 Total System Package (machine types 5360 and 5362).

A high-function, multilanguage operator display panel, expanded printing capabilities, and a range of advanced functions for those systems supporting the Intelligent Printer Data Stream* (IPDS*) provide a new performance point relative to the existing IBM 4234 Models 1 and 2. The IBM 4234 Model 007 can be converted to the corresponding higher speed Model 011 via the Model Upgrade. Also available are conversions that allow host attachments to be changed in the field.
