Description
On What Platforms?
The N2200 is connected and boots via a LAN attachment to an AIX, OS/400, and Windows NT** server. It can run applications from those servers or from a S/390 that is network-connected to a boot server.
You get access to Windows applications plus concurrent access to multiple terminal sessions. Run small Java applications. Take advantage of the emerging class of applications that utilize a thin Java GUI to transform existing character-based applications into easy-to-use graphical ones.

Product Positioning
The
IBM Network Station Series 2200 and 2800 are now called IBM NetVista
N2200 and N2800. They are referred to as NetVista thin clients. IBM
Network Station Manager V2 is now known as IBM NetVista Thin Client
Manager V2, which consists of code that runs on the NetVista thin
client as well as code that runs in a supported server environment
(Windows NT, OS/400, and AIX).
The Linux client for Network Station (see Announcement 100-042 on Feb 17, 2000) is now referred to as the NetVista Thin Client for Linux.
Positioned primarily in the ultra-thin end of the spectrum, the IBM NetVista N2200w Thin Client for Windows-based Terminal(WBT) Standard 1.5 focuses on access to Windows applications, and server-based applications with the available local emulators.
As basic local browser capability is added to the product offering, this focus will reach the very-thin browser environment as well. By affording a conversion path to NetVista Thin Client Manager (N2200 solution only), IBM extends the value of this offering. You can move to a more robust set of emulators, browser, Java/Linux capability, and enhanced manageability and enterprise-wide deployment capabilities.
Positioned primarily in the ULTRA-THIN end of the spectrum, the NetVista N2200e, Thin Client Express focuses on access to Windows applications, and server-based applications with the available local emulators. As basic local browser capability is added to the product offering, the focus will reach the VERY-THIN browser environment as well. The Thin Client Express solution allows maximum growth by enabling seamless, no-charge growth to the capabilities of a full Thin Client Manager, server-based management environment. If you require enhanced local application execution (e.g., full browser/JVM) and additional system management function, you should consider the NetVista Thin Client Manager V2R1 offering.
These offering
are members of the N2200 hardware family platform. They are not
targeted at S/300, S/1000, or N2800, and conversion from those
platforms to the WBT Standard 1.5 solution is not supported; however,
conversion from the WBT Standard 1.5 solution to NetVista Thin Client
Manager V2R1 on the same hardware will be considered as an option
(priced offering). If you require enhanced local application execution
(e.g., full browser/JVM) and additional system management function, you
should consider the NetVista V2R1 offering.
