InfoPrint^® Solutions Company, a Ricoh-IBM joint venture, announces InfoPrint 1552 and 1572 workgroup printers with MFP capability now have Intelligent Printer Data Stream™ (IPDS™) support. This includes the InfoPrint 1552 and 1572 printers with the M40 MFP Option installed and the InfoPrint 1572 MFP printer. These products did not have IPDS capability previously.

The new IPDS feature is called Card for IPDS and SCS/TNe. This enables printing either host-based or client-based output on your network-attached laser printer. You can use your printer for both network printing and for IBM eServer^® iSeries™ or mainframe jobs. You can also print bar codes, forms, publications, and graphics closer to your end users, giving you the associated cost and time savings from true distributed printing. The Card for IPDS and SCS/TNe enables you to direct your IBM AFP™/IPDS or SCS output across the LAN using the TCP/IP protocol.

This new feature also allows you to locate your printer wherever you need it to maximize its productivity. When connected to a network, an auto-emulation sensing printer will automatically switch to the proper document language, whether it is SCS, IPDS, PostScript, or PCL.

Benefits of the Card for IPDS and SCS/TNe include:

• Emulation of common IBM IPDS and SCS printers, such as 4028 or 3812
• AFP/IPDS printing over the LAN using TCP/IP with a standard Ethernet network port
• TN3270E or TN5250E SCS (LU1) printing over the LAN using TCP/IP with Telnet with a standard Ethernet network port

The Card for IPDS and SCS/TNe provides AFP/IPDS and SCS (LU1) data stream support for IBM servers. The Card for IPDS and SCS/TNe allows customers to print AFP/IPDS or SCS(LU1) documents over TCP/IP to LAN printers.

Details on Card for IPDS and SCS/TNe emulation

• The SCS/TNe or IPDS configuration settings can be changed using MarkNet print server's resident Web server, a browser, and the printer's IP address.
• For IPDS emulation printing, the capture of outline fonts (LF3) is now supported.

These affordable Cards for IPDS and SCS/TNe provide configuration flexibility and compatibility for AFP/IPDS or SCS printing over TCP/IP to LAN printers. In addition, these Cards for IPDS and SCS/TNe are compatible with IBM mainframe or IBM eServer iSeries applications that generate SCS (LU1) output, or with applications that output AFP/IPDS through Print Services Facility™ (PSF).

This feature makes it easy for IS/IT managers to have an affordable printing solution in a distributed network or on a LAN for applications or software that generate AFP/IPDS or SCS. The Card for IPDS and SCS/TNe:

• Supports PDF417, Data Matrix, MaxiCode, and QR code 2D bar codes.
• Utilizes UCC/EAN 128 bar code with parenthesis in the human readable interpretation.
• Using AFP/IPDS and PSF, captures fonts to hard disk or to flash memory resulting in reduced network traffic over LAN, coaxial, or twinaxial connections.
• Supports TN3270E or TN5250E SCS (LU1) over the LAN using TCP/IP with Telnet.
• Requires no changes to host applications.
• Supports emulation of common IBM IPDS and SCS printers.
• Eliminates the need for additional or new remote controllers with twinax or coax cabling. However, twinax and coax connections continue to be available using the Coax/Twinax Adapter for SCS.
• Enables one LAN printer to print LAN (PostScript, PCL, and so on) and mainframe or iSeries documents (AFP/IPDS, SCS).
