Agile 6287 Ally
The AGILE 6287 ALLY is a high-speed protocol converter that enables a mainframe computer system to print to industry-standard ASCII and EBCDIC printers. The ALLY's RG62 A/U coax input port provides the connection to an IBM mainframe with a 3174, 3274 or 3276 establishment controller or a display/printer adapter.
With the ALLY, distributed printers from Xerox, Hewlett-Packard, Lexmark and other manufacturers can be used in place of IBM 3262, 3287, 3289 and 4224 printers. Output is routed to either the RJ-12 serial port or the Centronics parallel port at 60-plus pages per minute.
Control commands embedded in the host data stream are used to program user-definable parameters in the ALLY, including output port selection, page formatting and character translation tables. The unit's removable, external ROM cartridge provides upgradeability and support for custom applications.
Dynamically allocated in 12K bytes of memory, the ALLY's 64 programmable function strings provide emulation of IBM's standard printer features. Predefined PFSs for HP LaserJets and Xerox XES printers are standard with the ALLY. Additionally, the ALLY supports both industry-standard transparency and special AGILE pseudo transparency modes.
