These face-to-face service offerings take advantage of the extensive skill and experience of our worldwide Technical Specialists to educate print operators on the advanced features and functions of our AFP Print Controller technology.

  • When the High Capacity Stacker SK5000 is installed, the installation of the buffer pass unit is recommended in the following situations:
    • Coated paper is stacked in the high capacity stacker.
    • When heavy (thick) paper is used and impressions consist of very high coverage (for example, full page photos or full page graphical images) the buffer pass unit may be required.
    • When toner adhesion occurs due to other factors (for example, high temperature, high humidity)

The installation of the buffer pass unit is not normally needed when:

Buffer Pass Unit Type 5000 - NA (#4550/4551)

Buffer Pass Unit Type 5000 - EU (#4552/4553)

The buffer pass unit provides cooling for media as it exits the print unit and prior to the media entering a finishing unit. It is installed adjacent to the main print unit.

When stacking large volumes of coated paper in the high capacity stacker, or onto the shift tray of the 3,000-sheet finisher, toner adhesion or sticking may occur. Coated paper retains heat longer than plain paper and the adhesion is caused by the excessive temperature of the coated paper.

The buffer pass unit will minimize toner adhesion/sticking by cooling paper after it is printed.

The buffer pass unit has a total of eight fans inside the unit. Two fans are located on the top, two on the bottom, and four in the rear side of the unit. All paper that goes through the buffer pass unit is cooled down.

When the High Capacity Stacker SK5000 is installed, the installation of the buffer pass unit is recommended in the following situations:

  • Coated paper is stacked in the high capacity stacker.
  • When heavy (thick) paper is used and impressions consist of very high coverage (for example, full page photos or full page graphical images) the buffer pass unit may be required.
  • When toner adhesion occurs due to other factors (for example, high temperature, high humidity)

The installation of the buffer pass unit is not normally needed when:

  • Only plain, uncoated paper is stacked in the high capacity stacker.
  • When two high capacity stackers are connected and the coated paper is only stacked into the second stacker. The coated paper will be cooled down due to the fans inside the first stacker. However, if coated paper is ever stacked in the first stacker, then the buffer pass unit is still recommended.

The buffer pass unit has two red LED lamps attached on the top right side of the unit. One LED lamp will flash on and off if a paper jam occurs and the other will stay on when the front door is open.

The specifications of the buffer pass unit are:

  • Dimensions (W x D x H): 330 x 730 x 920 mm (13.0 x 28.7 x 36.2 inches)
  • Weight: Less than 100 kg
  • Paper size: A6T/Post Card - 331 x 488 mm (13 x 19.2 in)

Cooling Fan Unit Type 5000 (#4542/#4543)

The cooling fan unit is a recommended option when coated paper is being used in SR5000 Finisher.

The cooling fan is attached above the shift tray, and cools the paper stacked into this tray.

When stacking coated sheets onto the shift tray, or when leaving coated paper sitting in the shift tray for a long time, the possibility occurs of toner adhesion and toner sticking between sheets of paper.

By cooling the paper, the possibility of toner adhesion and toner sticking is reduced.

2 Approximate yield of up to 72,000 impressions has been established with an average coverage of 5% of that toner. An impression is defined as one printed side of an A4/letter sheet. A duplex sheet would consist of two impressions.

The approximate average yields are not a warranty or guarantee of minimum life, are provided to assist in initial supplies planning. Actual usage should be used to establish the supply's life in the end user's application. Many factors (for example, print coverage per page, machine settings, paper type and size, and environmental conditions) can affect supply life.

Supply warranties are only for defects in materials and workmanship at the time or installation. They are not for print count life or normal wear and tear, nor for any print count minimum. Contact your place of purchase for warranty return instructions.

Toner is included in the usage charge as part of the maintenance agreement for these printers.
